overlooked details.

presentation has the ability to elevate a completed work beyond their initial esteem. product packaging is as important as how a concierge welcomes a guest. what’s commonly misunderstood is the presence or use of one aspect, ingredient, feature, etc. is capable of bringing about said elevation on its own:

  • a food establishment adding wagyu to their menu

  • large square footage being the highlight of a house

  • exotic wood being used for a stool

exposure is available at an accelerated pace due to the accessibility of online platforms making it simple to have individuals become fixated on one, particular detail. when gaining traction among the masses, that fixation becomes the determining factor to purchase, a counter when arguing validity, or a way to keep up in staying relevant. this thought process tends to diminish an expansive scope of understanding causing a promotion of misguided appreciation. these fixations are more or less gimmicks decorated with buzz words and labels to further a work’s appeal.

  • faux seams/stitching patterns on clothes

  • brand integration

  • use of a cultural identity

strategies do exist to incorporate these things in a tasteful manner, but it looks to be more common for creatives and producers to be dependent on them instead. these shallow presentations typically overshadow the completed work and undermines the purpose of techniques and materials when creating particular works. with this in mind, it can be seen how an individual’s appreciation for a work may be misguided. when works that are locally made receive praise, would the same exact work receive the same praise if it wasn’t made locally?
